Smart Growth Madison to Become Smart Growth Greater Madison
Local Real Estate Development organization changes name to reflect broadened scope
January 16, 2008 – Smart Growth Madison, Inc., board members voted unanimously last week to change the name of the organization to Smart Growth Greater Madison, Inc. in order to demonstrate their increased involvement in issues outside of the City of Madison boundaries.
Executive Director Carole Schaeffer noted, “With the increased emphasis on regionalism and the development-oriented proposals outside of Madison proper, we felt it was important to become more involved with county and surrounding community issues. We wanted our name to reflect that expanded focus.”
In the past, Smart Growth Madison primarily worked with City of Madison proposals and policies. The organization will continue to work on City of Madison issues such as Tax Incremental Financing, the Downtown Master Plan, demolition standards, parking standards, economic development, and the new city zoning code process.
Schaeffer explained, “Many of our members have projects in the surrounding communities and face similar issues as they do in Madison. We are looking forward to continuing our current work while embracing the importance of regional issues.”
